Bomber Sights (Easier to Counter Vehicles)

Bomber sights previously were a 50/50 discussion IMO, however now that there are pretty frequent APCs in addition to tanks (especially tanks as heavily armored as the Tiger II’s), I will say that the added accuracy is becoming more and more necessary.

The suggestion is rather simple:
add bomber sights for aircraft with bombs.

Ones that can be adequately in closer dives as well as mid-altitude bombing. It shouldn’t be terribly difficult.

Only for planes that had them

This was actually part of the original suggestion. Dropping the bomb

Many players play this game for the decent adherence to realism, so I think it’d be fine to start by giving sights to the planes which historically had them.

But all in all, I agree that bombing sights are all the more justified, now that the Germans have an extra tank on the field and the US can drive around in a little metal bowl.

I’m fine with bomb sights if it means having additional crew members on a plane actually matters, and only if the plane actually had them installed. Basically, a seated position similar to hull gunners for tanks, with the ability to make fine adjustments to the plane’s movement for aiming purposes.

No thank you, aircraft spam is toxic enough as it is.

I wouldnt be that worried about it. Most of the planes with actual bomb sights arent meta or frequently picked.

Like su 2 or the AP 4 (avenger). Might make them more worth while…in fact…apart from a few Japanese planes…i think that is all that had them so far in enlisted

Dauntless has one too.

I admit I REALLY love the scope in the last Japanese bomber thought. Probably unnecessary because hitting a target with a 500kg is rather easy, but, scope allows me to drop bomb from higher altitude (and spot tanks from higher, too)

It made my Japanese pilot completely not historical in that it’s do easy to bomb with such tool, than suicide bombing like a real son of the Emperor becomes a waste, even for laughs…

Did it? I thought because it was a dive bomber it only had the scope which is already ingame?.

I forgot the sb-2 and the ju188

Well yeah, I’m talking about that handy scope

The telescopic scope on the SBD wasn’t a bomb sight, it was actually a gun sight meant to be used when shooting at planes. In fact, I have heard accounts that pilots were expressly forbidden from using it to bomb ships because it fucked with the peripheral vision. Dunno how true it is, but I have seen it pop up enough times from mostly reputable sources to warrant brining it up.

You are more than likely right. In real life, it’s certainly how it was used.

But in game world, it helps spot tanks with Enlisted terrible rendering distance, and somehow works for accurate bombing!

Don’t get me wrong, it can get annoying with kamikaze planes, as well as ones that nobody attempts to counter. Though both of those are their own issues that need to be resolved.

To be honest, I think that adding sights MAY actually reduce the amount of random carpet bombs…

Since they can be more accurate with sights, there would likely be less instances of full ordinance drops, instead favoring more precise strikes and coming back for additional passes.

I would hope they would put in sights that allow for bombing from a medium altitude (like the bomber raids) NOT just for dive bombs.

Overall, it seems so far like a bad idea.

  • first and most important, getting close and releasing at the last moment before pulling will always be more precise.
  • the planes’ crews in enlisted don’t include dedicated bombardiers.
  • at the very best you will have idler players going back and forth from the ressuply point.
  • the worst affected nation would be the US, as it only has AP-1 with a bombsight. germans then soviets would benefit the most.
  • level bombing with a dedicated bombsight was not used for CAS, as it was made for big static targets.
  1. That’s not necessarily the case. Having a stable flight path and dropping ordinance can also give you good accuracy.

  2. Dive bombing is also one of the easiest ways to “accidentally” kamikaze into the ground. This is something that needs to be addressed, and by adding some sights, less people will need to attempt dive bombs in order to successfully hit a target.
