AI "tactics" setting options

  • DEFAULT - Just like current.

  • Defensive - They automatically seek shelter, make better use of sandbags, etc, and will try to move into cover if explosives land nearby, they keep an eye out in all directions.

  • Offensive - They keep their primary focus in the area where you are looking. If you sprint to an area, or bayonet charge, they will do the same. If you are in cover, they will also find nearby cover but still keep their attention in the direction you are facing. This allows you to create more effective firing lines.

  • Movement - They will try to either find the most effective route into the building, but if two or more die in the same locations (such as a doorway) they will look for an alternative route.
In addition, if there is a player dug trench nearby, the rest will prefer to move through that trench, making it easier to get troops to follow you through a trench more effectively.

I wouldn’t mind some improved AI behavior. Granted the AI essentially being cannon fodder is good for getting kills against enemy AI, but not so great when it’s your AI doing it. I think improving the squad mechanics and behavior would overall be a good thing.

totally utopic
ai couldnt recover from total f… up from high calibre update (11 months before).
pathfinding is problematic let alone making them able to manage way more complicated tasks

Thats the thing though. Because they are trying to both decide whether or not to take cover currently, or to shoot, having this option would make them prioritize one thing or the other.
Defense priority:

  1. Find cover
  2. Shoot back

Offense priority:

  1. Shoot at enemies in the direction the player is looking
  2. If there are not enemies to immediately shoot at, find cover

Movement priority:

  1. Get to the player or marked location
  2. Find cover
  3. Shoot

It basically just makes them focus on one thing or another rather than how it is currently, where they are basically interrupting themselves when they try to do something, with no idea what to prioritize, leaving them often times standing in the open and getting killed off!
