AI Convoys - Making Aircraft More Fun

Logistics were always a vital component of any war. Harassing the enemy’s supply lines can be just as damaging as attacking them head on, or even more so.

In Enlisted, battles would be more dynamic with AI vehicles supplying the attackers with tickets (similarly to the balloons on Airfield, but more realistic). These convoys can be added to each campaign in various forms, such as trucks, trains, or aircraft.

The benefits include:

  • More reasons to fly
  • More air to air combat
  • Less bombs landing on the players

Below are some examples of vehicle convoys

German trucks on the Eastern Front

Allied trucks in Africa

Soviet trucks

a pretty fresh idea, we would have to see how they implement it but it seems magnificent to me.

It is a good idea

I always loved Warthunder Enduring confrontation mode. And find that it could be equally fun in enlisted.

Adding, stuff like PVE targets that contribute and effect a teams ability use certain things

-Heavy artillery emplacements, Strike target. Destroying gives point and removes enemy teams ability to call in artillery for 5 mins
-Airfield, strike target. Destroying removes enemy ability to call in bomber strike for 5 mins.
-Convoy, strike target, destroying gives points and removed some reinforcement tickets

Expands on the Aerial part of the game, and gives reason too, apart from just farming kills. E.G I could help the guys out on the ground by destroying enemy off map call ins, or just keep farming kills.

*cough small invasion mode map *cough

The main downside I see is that currently there is NO WAY for a fighter to reliably prevent enemy planes from bombing a target. Except for a lucky pilot snipe, the attacking plane will soak up bullets and complete the bombing run (or even multiple ones).

Or lucky fire of Engine. What i have seen was most 3 planes disrupted, but that was lucky pilot. I have shot down most 2 bombers, then i run out of ammo or was shot down, idk now. And those 2 were when i heard first message than they are coming and i was already in air.

Even an engine fire wouldn’t stop an attacker before it can drop. Currently, except said pilot snipes, air gunnery doesn’t provide significant aerodynamic damage.

If there’s a thing we don’t need, it’s much in the way of aircraft buffs, and making aircraft more effective or more beneficial than they already are is gonna be a tough sell.

I’m not talking about the suicide bombing we usually see. A well-flown plane can make or break a game almost as certainly as spawn points.

As far as convoys supplying tickets to the attacking side, it’s a neat idea, but I don’t think a fun one for actual gameplay. Airfield is a good example, with the balloons providing tickets as they’re destroyed. I don’t lose many games on Airfield as Allies if my team is barely sentient and paying attention, because we can always get more tickets until the balloons are gone.

It might work for certain maps in Moscow, Berlin, and Stalingrad, where which side is defending switches. In normandy, on the beach? Where are the convoys coming from, the sea? can greyzone tankks on the hill get in on the action?

This wouldn’t necessarily buff aircraft, rather make them more interesting to play. It would depend on how rewarding the destruction of these convoys would be. Fighter planes would finally have a greater impact, but that wouldn’t make them overpowered, as there would be one less person on the ground. It also doesn’t have to be a feature in every map, as a simple bloodbath with minimal diversions is fun in its own way. As for Normandy, the allied convoys could just be slightly off of the battlefield. Like, you could try to prevent ships from reaching a port, or trucks and halftracks from reaching a base. Another possibility could be C-47s airdropping supplies. I’d imagine them to be some good distance away from the battlefield. I think convoys would be very interesting in a game-mode with both sides trying to push each other farther back, like a two-way invasion.

ANIMO Y SEGUID ASI…
